What a score means

Scores spread out on purpose. A color in the 90s is one of a handful that a large share of painters are weighing up; the median color with a ColorRank scores in the 20s. Colors searched fewer than 50 times a month get no score at all, because at that level the number would say more about noise than about the color.

ColorRank measures interest, not quality, and not sales. A brand-new color or a niche favorite can be a great choice with a low score. Scores are recalculated each time we refresh the search data (current snapshot: 2026-10-15). Raw figures and the data source are on how we measure; every measured color is in the full ranking by searches.
